In the center of what is arguably the finest neighborhood of well preserved Victorian homes in Virginia, is #402 East Beverley Street. Built about 1905, it features large, well lighted rooms, high ceilings, crown moldings, a grand foyer, a shelf-lined library, seven bedrooms, 5,300 square feet in all. The five and a half baths were recently stylishly updated and there is a new kitchen with cherry cabinets and a nice view out the back window of Staunton’s iconic Betsy Bell (Mountain). The large 0.59 acre lot is professionally landscaped, with gold fish pond, a romantic swing, extensive flower beds and shrubs, and a decorative stone arch. There is a two-car garage and off street parking for three more cars.

Within easy walking distance are the Blackfriars Shakespeare Theater, Mary Baldwin College, Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library, and the shops and restaurants of Historic Downtown Staunton. In view of the town’s spectacular architecture and lively cultural scene, the National Trust designated it a “Distinctive Destination.”

The house was a private residence in the 20th century, then served as a posh Bed and Breakfast until recently, but is now vacant and is being offered at a drastically reduced price to settle an estate. As a B&B, it offered two two-bedroom suites, two more bedrooms with attached full baths, and an owner’s apartment on the third floor with separate entrance. The walkout basement has a new sauna and a bedroom with separate entrance.
